Tsolum River Study

Week 9 - April 12-16, 2021

Our overarching theme this week will be the Tsolum River but we will start into some of our Physics unit with a look at energy. Energy sources, types, and conversions; they affect all the Matter of the Universe, all the time. We will also link energy into the past present and future of the Tsolum as one of the main watersheds of the Comox Valley.

Monday

You will have a TOC today but I am hoping to be back for tomorrow, remember we have a field trip up the Tsolum River by bus on Wednesday meeting at 9:15 am and returning by 2:00 pm. You will need either boots or shoes that can get wet!

For the first part of today you will be working from Laptop Cart 5 which some nice students can please collect at 9:15 and return to the Library by 11:50 am. Click the link on Science 10 banner that says "Climate Solution" and work on the assignment.

The remainder of the class I would like you to work with a partner. On a 11x17 piece of paper I would like you to write your own notes using p.203-205 on the types of Energy with examples from you life for the following: Mechanical Kinetic, Radiant, Thermal, Electrical Kinetic, Sound, Chemical Potential, Gravitational Potential, Elastic, Nuclear, Electric Potential, Magnetic Potential. (notice similarities)

On the other side of the paper together create a Rube Goldberg machine with at least 10 types of energy transformations labelling the transformation. Your machine can be creative...
