Water as a Complicated Resource

Week 4-5 - September 25 - October 6, 2023

After surveying Towhee Creek to the Tsolum River we will investigate our samples of water to understand the microscopic systems of life that exist in the water itself. We will also be continuing to learn about the abiotic components of water.

Taking advantage of low tides we will head out on our first couple field trips. Tuesday the 26th we will be going to the Courtenay estuary to learn about the ancient fish traps of the Komox people who sustainably harvested on these lands for thousands of years. Thursday the 28th we will be going to Point Holmes for an intertidal exploration and marine plastics survey.

In class we will be starting our discussion on complex freshwater issues looking at the Columbia and Colorado Rivers.

Assessment
